Are you coming to me? Or, ok. I’ll come to you.

We’re still getting to know each other, Ben and I.

Since our first coaching session on Saturday I’ve come to work with Ben almost every day. And each session has been so different, I feel a little like we’ve unpacked the puzzle and now we’re starting the build by finding the corner pieces!

It’s like I said. I’ve never worked with a horse from this stage in the training. The very beginning. This is a whole new learning curve and I want to pinch myself I can’t believe this has come to be for me and Ben, and I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to learn and grow as a horse(wo)man.

I had no time constraints today. I groomed Ben for a long time, feeling super relaxed and comfortable in his space. We then moved to the paddock which we understand is our ‘working space’.

Soon into our session he decided to leave me and walked over to the shelter. He did this a few days ago too (story for another day), but this time, he just stood there with his rump facing me. It was so peculiar I started filming it.

And then he turned his head to the right to look right at me, and back to neutral. Then he turned his head to the left to look at me – and I mean turned his neck banana like to look at me.

He did this a few times, and then it occurred to me – maybe he wants me to come to him?

Just as I was making this realisation, he decided to come and join me again, and so we continued with our training.

This moment really stayed with me.

Horses teach you to be present.

And when you’re present, you understand.
